Hyundai Hope on Wheels started in 1998 this is a national non-profit organization that has donated more than $23 million over the last 13 years to support the fight against childhood cancer.  Our goal is to award at least $10 million in research grants this year alone.  Each year Hope on Wheels travels to children's hospitals and organizations across the U.S. to donate funds. to raise awareness and to bring hope to children and their families fighting this disease.  The Hyundai Santa Fe is the iconic vehicle for the program, which is covered with hand prints of actual childhood cancer patients.  It symbolizes the hopes and dreams of all kids diagnosed with the disease and our commitment to them.  Sport Durst Hyundai are united with Hyundai Motor America to find a cure for child hood cancer.  We invite you to join the fight.  Check out www.HyundaiHopeOnWheels.org

Sport Durst Gives Back... One Family at a Time.

It isn’t unusual these days to hear the stories of families that were doing just fine before the economic down turn. Suddenly, and it is always sudden, everything begins to fall apart. Beethowen Gregory’s story is just that.

Beethowen sought to provide a better life for his wife and children, selling his motorcycle and truck to take up classes part time while working at UNC. Not long after he made that decision, his hours were cut and his wife’s van had to be let go. The family was down to a $100 1989 Toyota Camry. Then, his mother passed away and a little more than a week later the landlord of the house he and his family rented called to tell him that he was putting the house up for sale and they had a week to vacate. So the Gregory’s moved in with family.

While living with his in-laws, in October 2010 Beethowen was laid off from his job at UNC for 30 days, and when they called him back to work, he had already started working part time at a local grocery store. UNC asked that he quit his part time gig to come back to them for only 8-16 hours per week. The request made no sense financially, and after a discussion with his boss at the grocery store, Beethowen was promised more hours. So he stayed with the store and turned UNC down. But after Thanksgiving, all hours were cut at the grocery store and Beethowen worked about 30 hours a week for $8/hour.  It has been one thing after another for this small church-going family.

In March 2011, Sport Durst heard of the Gregory’s troubles through newhope church in Durham, and donated $500 to the family, in hopes that they could contribute to the Gregory’s upward climb out of financial woes. However small or large the impact made, the sheer existence of an impact is what motivates the dealership to give back to those struggling in our community, one family at a time.

“We don’t know how long it will take for the Gregory’s to feel secure again, financially. In this economy, it’s hard to tell,” says Ken Nichols, General Manager of Sport Durst. “But we hope that we provided some level of comfort in such a difficult time, and we are touched by his deep gratitude for our small gift.”

St. Baldrick's Foundation - Conquer Kids's Cancer

Where:    94th St Pub in WoodCroft Shopping Center
When:     March 26, 2011 - 12:00 Noon

Durham, NC /March 26, 2011 – The St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising money to fund the most promising research to find cures for childhood cancers and give survivors long and healthy lives, has issued a lofty challenge to everyone who wants to help raise money for pediatric cancer research: Be a hero for kids with cancer by shaving your head in return for pledges of financial support from friends and family.

Participants find that shaving their head in solidarity with the approximately 160,000 children who are diagnosed with cancer each year and frequently lose their hair as a result of treatment, is a small sacrifice in comparison to what these children endure.

On Saturday, March 26, 2011, 50-75 people will shave their heads to help Conquer Kids’ Cancer! The event will be held locally at West 94th St. Pub in Woodcroft Shopping Center, with an estimated attendance of 150-200 people. The head-shavings will commence from 12noon-6:00pm  We will also be offering a Raffle with several different donated items as well as live music from 8pm-11pm with the 751 Band.  Studio K Salon & Bella Trio Day Spa have teamed up with us to do all the head shaving.  In addition, we are expecting Mike Wheelis from 94.7FM and Ken Nichols from Sports Durst Millenium Automotive Group to be our Emcees.  And not to mention, special appearances from Wool E Bull of the Durham Bulls Baseball Team, and the Durham Fire Department. There will be several kid activities held throughout the day, such as: Face Painting, Basketball Shootout and Cornhole.  For additional details, you may contact Kerry Bryant at 919-599-9054 or www.west94stpub.com
