What kind of car is the Mazda CX-70?

The Mazda CX-70 is a mid-size SUV, comfortably seating up to 5 passengers.

If you're keen on an even bigger SUV from Mazda, we'd recommend a new 2025 Mazda CX-90 for sale in Durham and the surrounding areas. Combining muscle with unbridled performance, the CX-90 has been a fan favorite for a while.

What cars can I compare to the Mazda CX-70?

For a frame of reference for the CX-70, you can compare it to a Hyundai Santa Fe, Kia Sorento, or a Chevy Blazer. There are other mid-size SUVs in the market, but these cars offer hybrid variants as well.

How is the 2025 Mazda CX-70 Hybrid similar to the gas-powered version?

Design and features

Both the gas-powered and hybrid models share the same fluid design features that are so distinctive and unique to the Mazda family of cars. On the surface, they look identical and share most features, including things like a standard sunroof.

Interiors

Both models are identical when it comes to dimensions, features, and tech available within the cabin of the CX-70.

The main differences emerge when you compare the powertrains of the two models.

How is the 2025 Mazda CX-70 Hybrid different from the gas version?

Powertrain

This is where it gets a little confusing (but still fascinating). The CX-70 gas version has a mild hybrid powertrain, featuring a 3.3-liter e-Skyactiv G inline-6 engine paired with a 48-volt mild hybrid system (MHEV). It produces 280 horsepower.

On the other hand, the hybrid version of the CX-70 is technically a PHEV (plugged-in hybrid), which incorporates a 2.5-liter e-Skyactiv PHEV engine with a larger battery pack and an electric motor. This plug-in hybrid setup delivers a higher total output of 323 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque.

Fuel efficiency and range

While the gas version has a fuel economy of 28 MPG on the highway, the hybrid version boasts an economy of 56 MPGe on the highway (twice that of the gas version!).

Towing capacity

The gas version has a superior towing capacity of 5,000 lbs compared to the hybrid's capacity of 3,500 lbs, which makes sense considering the configuration of their powertrains.
